Have you ever had one of those days when you just feel stuck? Maybe you are feeling a slight impulse for something different or maybe it’s a bigger impulse to change things up. If you have noticed that your life isn’t matching up with what you want or feel that it should be, it’s time to take a few minutes and become intentional.
The first thing to do is inquire within and make way for an opportunity to keep moving forward on your path.
Here are a few questions to help you jump start this process.
What do you need right now?
When you think of this question, really explore what it is that you need. Maybe you need assurance that things will be okay. It could also be a time when you are needing a boost of confidence that you can get through this. Whether it’s an issue of you needing sleep, reassurance, or a new challenge, it’s important to explore this question as often as you can. Otherwise, you may end up feeling frustrated and unsatisfied because you haven’t identified what IT is that you actually need.
What matters most to you?
This question is all about values. If you don’t know what matters most to you then it will be tough to feel a sense of satisfaction. When you list out your top 3-5 values, consider how much time you spend on each of them. This can really help get you unstuck.
What were you doing the last time you were laughing out loud?
This one is pretty straightforward. When you are laughing you are enjoying your life you are happy and content. Consider how often you experience genuine laughter and if there are particular circumstances that nurture humor and fun for you. If you haven’t laughed a lot lately, then it’s time to change that up for sure!
Who is the person you spend time with that makes you lose track of time?
This is a good question to help you identify the person that help bring out the best in you. You can get into a state of flow and lose track of time/space when you are relaxed and tapped in to your true self. Think of the person you are with when you never check your phone or social media status….spend more time with this person!
What helps you feel relaxed and carefree?
So this one is pretty obvious. Stuff that makes you feel relaxed and carefree is the stuff that supports your creativity. Are you struggling to remember the last time you felt this way? If so, take a deep breath and start now. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your sense of total peace and contentment, but you will get there one deep relaxing breath at a time!
When was the last time you felt balanced?
I am being a little sneaky with this question. I often hear people talk about this abstract idea of work/life balance. The problem is that I rarely hear people describe the last time they FELT balance. I believe it happens in a fluid sense and that we don’t recognize it as easily as we recognize the sense of unbalance or just being ‘off’. This requires intention. Set your intention to work towards balance today and explore that experience.
What is something you are willing to try today?
If you are feeling stuck, then it will help to try something new. Something outside your comfort zone. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be anything terrifying, just something a little out of your normal routine. If you are not sure where to start, consider trying a new yoga pose, a new restaurant, or even a new shampoo. Mix it up. See what happens.
Who helps keep you on track with your goals?
This is along the same vein as question 4. Who can help hold you accountable to a trying something new and keeping you on track with whatever goal you create? Tell this person about your ideas and stay connected to them. Accountability is key to creating and sustaining your goals. Seek out the support you need and stick to it!
What is something you are proud of that you accomplished?
This question helps you gain a connection to your confidence, in case you need it right about now. Think about something that took a lot of hard work. It may not have even been recognized by a lot of people. That’s not the point, the point is that it was something that led to a feeling of success. Let your thoughts explore this achievement and allow it to help you formulate your plan for today.
After you work your way through these questions or even if you pick just one to focus on, consider how you will let it guide you right now and harness that energy for tomorrow. This is what helps create an intentional life.
